Hope Orphanage Batam is built to cater three main functions of the building: Poor Community, Orphanage, & Youth Hotel/Retreat Facility. Entering each individual area, people are welcomed by the individual theme that represents the spirit of each function.

The concept for Hope Orphanage Batam is based on the 4+1 points in the book “Good Enough Parenting” by John & Karen Louis. The 4+1 points are: Connection and acceptance, healthy autonomy, reasonable limits, realistic expectations and power of community. From this, TWS & Partners develops five patterns associated with each of five important aspects to achieve “Good Enough Parenting”.

Originally assigned to design the extension and revitalization of Batam Center Mall which includes the internal front space, outdoor area and facade treatment, TWS & Partners ends up designing the public entrance interior, as well as the primary space. This covers a total of 58,898 sqm designated area.

The challenge was to provide convenience for the visitors, and it was resolved by mainly 2 things. One, was providing a passageway that connects to ferry terminal. The second, was creating a 16,000 sqm parking building, which also serves a simple, new, attractive commercial hub.

The last additional program is the apartment tower which sits on top of the parking space and new commercial area on the ground level. The rooftop building base is used for an extensive roof garden and facilities intended for the residents.

The Ring is a commercial project located at the housing residence in the suburbs of Depok. The objective of this project is to house a commercial / retail shopping mall project to be used as a facility for the surrounding neighbourhood. The location itself is at a quite hilly area with a valley at the centre of the site and comprises of low-rise buildings, all of which are not more than 4 stories tall. The idea of the finished design is to combine the outdoor facilities for the residence nearby with the commercial program of the shopping mall. ‘The Ring’ refers to the main lobby and circulation located at the centre, which is a semi outdoor space that connects the public entrance to the public outdoor space located in the middle of the project. By designing in such a way, the public can easily access the outdoor leisure space inside the project without having to rely on the operational hours of the shopping mall. The mall is located at the sides of the project, with access controlled by an access door during non-operational hours.

In the middle there is a public access ramp which leads the guests from the entrance level to the lower level of the park that is surrounded by facilities like coffee shops that can operate from early in the morning until late at night. The mall is also equipped with waterscapes in the middle so that surrounding temperatures can be reduced a few degrees lower.

The Summit is a commercial exclusive club in the middle of Jakarta, which previously was also an executive club that used to be famous among businesspeople in the CBD area. The project comprises of a members-only executive club and also combines it with a social collaborative space that can be accessed daily by non-members. It is facilitated with an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a state-of-the art, fully equipped gymnasium. The style mimics that of a British gentlemen’s club, normally found in the middle of London. The executive club was designed with a natural color palette that includes lime green, cyan, and wooden mahogany woods for certain areas to create an exclusive atmosphere. A more light-toned oak wood is used for the social gathering space, which has a more casual and modern interior design theme and a resort-like, outdoorsy impression. Additionally, there is a specialty restaurant pavilion beside the swimming pool.

TUSARA is a sports facility club for the Ciputra BSB neighbourhood located in the city of Semarang, Central Java. The site itself is an undulating, hilly terrain which has riversides to the west, and the program itself is to house a sports program, which includes a fully equipped gymnasium, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and next-door commercial space. The concept is taken from the word ‘Tusara’ which means ‘rainwater droplet’ in Javanese. The shape of a water droplet is taken to inform the architectural language and space for this building.

Guests arrive at the freestanding curved wall which is made of a translucent ice cube-like material, which elaborates the water droplet theme. Behind the curved wall is a water garden that welcomes the guests coming into the reception lobby. The guests can then either go down or go up to the facilities which has a different quality of space. The lower story houses a fully equipped gymnasium area which has a 270-degree sweeping view of the surroundings and connects to the outdoor terrace and the swimming pool outside. The upper floor houses the yoga program and other sport programs located next to the spacious curved outdoor terrace.

Built on a 29,172 sqm land, seated at 570 m above sea level on a challenging contour of hills and valleys, and surrounded by lush natural greeneries, Wikasantrian is a Leadership Training Centre located in Bogor, West Java. The building consists of 3 different functions: Lobby, Dormitory, and Villa. The concept of the Wikasantrian is inspired by the life phase of an insect, the Pupa. The Pupa is one of the metamorphosis stages in a bug’s life which depicts the biological process of physical change from embryo to adult bug. This represents the process of a person who undertakes a transformation process to be a leader while in Wikasantrian.

The Lobby welcomes and gathers people from various backgrounds, who are to be shaped as leaders, is depicted as a cocoon of a silkworm. It has a soft yet rigid texture with a translucent yet porous surface, creating interesting visual through the materials used. The layout of the lobby is inspired by the simple shape of a cocoon: a slim, doughnut shape, slightly twisted at the end that results in 2 openings: front & rear.

The Dormitory & Villa as the accommodation of the training center, are illustrated as Beehives. This is where socialization and interactions between trainees are encouraged to build leadership skills. The form of the dormitory is hexagonal, taken from the concept of beehives. The whole mass is elevated from the ground to avoid mass footprints on the ground. They are split into smaller modules that are adjusted to the contour height of the land. To achieve the lightweight quality, prefabricated panels are used. As the beehives are created of single mass entities, they are connected one to another by gable roof which represents the characteristics of local buildings in West Java. The different levels create a distinct feature of the landscape.

The Ubud is a small scale project of a mixed-use building located in the heart of Jakarta. Its main purpose is to house the famous Bebek Bengil Restaurant from Ubud, Bali. Originally, Bebek Bengil Restaurant sits on exotic rice field. To bring this memorable dining experience into The Ubud project in Jakarta, TWS & Partners creates a 5-storey building on a limited triangular site that visualizes Balinese identity. Clients are received in the first mass of the building.

As clients enter The Ubud, they will be received in the first mass of the building which skin mimics Balinese red brick arrangement with in and out custom-made glass wall. This is followed by a courtyard that divides the first & the second mass of the builings. The courtyard is designed as an urban oasis and designed in a Balinese tropical style. This replicates the feeling of dining experience in the original Bebek Bengil Restaurant in Ubud. The “orang tua” sculpture, located in the center of courtyard, will greets the guest, as soon as they enter the lobby, that act as a transition zone from the bustle atmosphere of the main road. The Ubud offers several dining areas with different ambiance. A private balcony on the second floor, traditional open pavilion with wooden roof, and a dining hall that overlooks the courtyard.

Located in the heart of Bandung, Natasha Skin Care Center sits on a 1000 sqm building coverage. The goal of this project is to create an iconic building, as this center will be launched to carry its first new concept. As we enter the clinic, clients will be received in a spacious lobby that serves as a reception and waiting area, a drug store, doctor’s room and twenty-two treatment rooms. All these is well connected to the service and storage area.

The concept of the architecture & interior is derived from the concept of human skin which is elastic and semi permeable. The building facade, which can also be seen form the interior space, depicts the quality of human skin: vibrant and translucent, represented in the curtain wall made from the mixed materials of laminated glass, fabric and mirror on some parts. TWS & Partners wants to deliver the impression of cllean, hi-tech, cozy and exclusivity through the white, cream and gold color scheme.

Entering deeper inside, there are double curved staircases going up to second floor to the treatment rooms. The curve symbolizes femininity and beauty, enhanced by the ceiling mirror, flower graphic artworks, and hanging acrylic box running along the ceiling corridor.
